모내기

This work, which embraces tradition while aspiring toward modernity, places the virtues of the agrarian era at the center of its theme. The central theme of 'Monaegi' (rice transplanting) mirrors our own lives. As a farming practice that marks the beginning of the year's harvest, 'Monaegi' involves planting seedlings into the rice paddy one by one. The piece 'Monaegi' serves as a reminder of the laws of nature. The seedlings, planted sparsely in the paddy, pass through spring and the maturity of summer, growing lushly to dye the fields green. By autumn, they ripen into gold, filling the hearts and stomachs of neighbors. This follows the same logic of our existence: we plant our lives day by day, month by month, and year by year, just as we transplant rice, and those gathered days, months, and years eventually become a fruitful life.

전통을 아우르며 현대를 지향하는 작품은 농경 시대의 미덕을 주제의 중심에 둔다. 구심적 주제의 모내기는 우리의 삶과 닮아있다. 한 해 농사의 시작을 알리는 ‘모내기’는 한모, 한모 논에 모를 심어 기르는 농작법이다. 「모내기」는 자연의 섭리를 일깨운다. 듬성듬성 논에 심어진 모들이 봄을 보내고, 여름의 성숙 시절을 지내면서 무성하게 자라나서 논을 푸르름으로 물들이고 가을이면 누렇게 익어 이웃들의 마음과 배를 채워준다. 하루·한 달·일 년을 모심듯 삶을 심어내고 하루·한 달·일 년이 모여 풍성한 삶이 되는 이치와 같다.
